How You Can Help
Ok, so here is the pitch. I need your help to help more dogs. There are three ways that you can help me.
Tell Your Friends
As I tell everyone who adopts a dog, there are always more dogs out there who need good homes than there are good homes available. You can see my rescue dogs here or at www.petfinder.com under Schnauzer for the breed, in Colorado for the state, under Vintage Dog Rescue. You can contact me by email or on my cell at 720-320-2413.
Foster a Dog
Laws, and common sense, limit the number of dogs that I can keep. I currently have 10 dogs waiting to get into rescue. The more people who can foster a dog, the more dogs I can help. Fostering means opening your home to a dog in rescue. Some of the dogs come into rescue with a lot of baggage, and need one-on-one care. They may be scared, they may be ill, or they may just need some time to adjust. Other dogs will take a little longer to find a home due to their age or their medical condition. Still others are little love machines who just need a place to rest up before going to a permanent home.
Perhaps you don’t want to adopt another dog right now, but you have the room and love to take care of an additional dog on a temporary basis. You provide the love and the food, and I will take care of the medical care. Dogs are quarantined and vetted prior to being placed into foster homes. This means that they have their shots, are spayed or neutered, and have been tested for heartworms.
Help Me Pay for Veterinary Care
Most dogs come into rescue needing to be spayed or neutered, which costs about $150. Some dogs need at least one vaccination, which costs an average of $18. Most dogs don’t have a microchip that can identify them if they wander away. Implanting a microchip costs $30. Many rescue dogs need to have their teeth cleaned and cared for, which can run from $150 for a simple cleaning to $375 for those dogs who require several extractions. Some dogs have other medical issues that require care prior to adoption, such as repair of a cherry eye or removal of a mass. Even with the generous help of our vet, these bills are still very large, and in most cases, adoption fees cover only a portion of the vet bills for each dog.
This year donations are tax deductible, and all donations go directly to pay the vet bills. You can send a check to Vintage Dog Rescue, at 19 North Ranch Road, Littleton CO 80127 or you can call the vet office directly at 303-978-9750 and charge a donation to Schnauzer Rescue.
